Ignorance is bliss... but at what cost? A look at the characters and events that sparked my political awakening.

Most Canadians are not paying attention to politics. Not really, anyway. They might catch a headline or put CBC on in the background during their hectic morning routine. But they have busy lives and just assume that government activities are similar, or the same, as they have always been. It takes a monumental change taking place to start to wake people up. For some that might be carbon pricing on fuel, the increase in their grocery bill when buying the same items, a change in a government service they rely on, or the threat of having their legally acquired firearms taken away.
Five years ago, I had very little knowledge of, and lacked interest in, the detailed workings of our government. I was in tune with local government activities as I was affiliated with a local news station and frequently attended events alongside City Council Members, shook hands with Mayors, and worked on advertising campaigns for local elections. But when it came to what was happening at the provincial and federal levels, I did not know much more than what was available in a headline.
In 2016, the American political system was shaken upside down when Trump - a non-politician, and very famous TV celebrity and businessman - ran against Hillary Clinton in the US Federal Election…and won! I recognized around this time that many comedians and Hollywood types were blending politics with entertainment. Chelsea Handler (whose show I used to follow on Netflix) would advocate for her audience to not only go out and vote but to vote for Hillary Clinton (and she was pretty pushy about it).
What used to be saved for political commentary on late-night comedy shows was now mainstream. Now it is hard to find anything coming out of Hollywood that doesn’t include either passive-aggressive left-wing narrative or blatant, in-your-face virtue signaling. When you turn on the tube at night you will be inundated with unfunny hosts pushing boundaries of what used to be roasting humour, to now what resembles more like hatred for POTUS.
Like many other unenlightened Canadians, I thought the US was crazy to vote for an egotistical celebrity like Trump. I was not a big fan of his demeanor or tactics which I thought to be narcissistic and unpresidential. But the more I listened to why 63 million Americans voted for him, the more I recognized that the US was long overdue for someone to treat their government like a business. Someone with experience and the kahunas to renegotiate unfair trade deals and NATO contributions, control the influx of illegal immigrants flooding into the country by reinforcing their southern border, and strategize their participation in other countries’ wars and move towards bringing soldiers home. Should one care what words a president speaks if their actions have the means to improve multiple facets of Americans’ lives from jobs and the economy, to national security and the military?
It was difficult to remain uninformed once politics continued to flood into other facets of life. Everyone was vomiting their disgust for Trump; from the “news” anchor desk to sports fields, and every liberal print publication. Then, through a series of circumstances that inspired my partner (boyfriend) to satisfy his own need for answers, he stumbled down a political rabbit hole and became part of MAGA Nation. He became excited, hopeful, and inquisitive in his pursuit to follow the US President’s path to “drain the swamp”. I encouraged him to follow Canadian politics as closely as he was American politics, but his energy towards POTUS to this day does not waver.
Right around this same time, our Prime Minister could not escape scrutiny for the many scandals he appeared to be involved in. As I educated myself further on Canada’s twenty-third Prime Minister (who I had not voted for despite my history as a self-proclaimed liberal) I was quick to infer that this trust-fund Canadian celebrity knew very little about running a country. Ahead of many important promises that would have a real impact on Canadian’s lives, Justin Trudeau spent energy on political correctness like changing the language in our National Anthem. There was no balanced budget, no electoral reform, an abundance of spending, and no mainstream media seemed to be holding him accountable.
I started actively looking for, and paying attention to conservative media outlets to provide the checks and balances that our state broadcaster and $595M paid media shills were avoiding, and found:
1) Rose Knight, the reporter that JT sexually harassed and then claimed, “she experienced it differently.”
2) The Attorney General, Jody Wilson-Raybould that JT “reassigned” after she wouldn’t be strong-armed into providing a “Deferred Prosecution Agreement” for the corrupt Canadian firm, SNC Lavalin on charges of corruption, fraud, and attempted bribery
3) The insulting remarks he made at a Quebec woman who challenged JT on taxpayer money he spent on illegal immigrants crossing at Roxham Road, saying her criticisms had “no place in Canada”
4) Multiple videos and pictures of cultural appropriation using makeup to darken his skin
5) His 2015 “gender-neutral” cabinet which put inexperienced members into positions of power and provided accountability based on what was between one's legs
6) These are only the tip of the iceberg
Even when I was still asleep, I never trusted Trudeau. Why did the Liberals put such an inexperienced candidate in the leadership position of their party? What is the purpose of putting someone this ignorant and lacking merit in this dominant position other than to be able to control them? Have you ever listened to Trudeau speak while parliament is in session? It is a constantly repeating, broken record of sound bites, spewed again and again, regardless of how opposition members phrase a question or ask for a specific answer. The same regurgitated nonsense is projected out of his mouth so he can guarantee those words will be the ones printed on the front page the next day. When you are asleep, you see that sound bite and assume it is a clip of something more meaningful and valid. One of the ways to wake up is to expose yourself to Question Period in the House of Commons on CPAC and listen to how nonsensical our government’s responses to critique from opposition truly is.
Being “asleep” is the term used to describe citizens who aren’t paying attention to politics beyond what mainstream media and the headlines want to tell you. You believe that mainstream news is telling you unbiased, factual reporting. You would have no reason to believe your local radio station or CBC have a narrative to push, but the reality is, they do. If you have worked in media, you know that at 4am the “talking points” are handed down from parent organizations and most of what gets printed as news stories are re-posts of stories by The Associated Press, CBC, and The Canadian Press. Facebook hosts all kinds of posts with this narrative amplified so the disinformation you read appears to have that much more credibility, and conservative rebuttals and investigative reports are throttled and censored, so they are very difficult to find. Google won’t return conservative search results unless you know how to find a specific piece of content.
I hear you. You’re busy with a career and family, following a sports team, catching the newest movie out this weekend, driving kids to practice; you don’t have time to research every teaser you hear on CNN (but you should). My political awakening has driven me to keep time available for researching and promoting what the mainstream will not tell us. Being asleep is far more comfortable than being awake. There are times I wish I was still asleep because when you are awake you are fired up with frustration. It is frustrating to try and wake up others. There are all kinds of emotions that overwhelm you like anger, anxiety, determination, perseverance, disappointment, and even fear. But the risk remains that we will not win back our country without a fight, and those sleeping may wake up too late to be able to make a real difference.
Nearly 300,000 Canadians stood up to make a real difference in October. Those were the Canadians that supported a brand-new party, the People’s Party of Canada. The Canadian election period really shot me into high gear on the politics front. It is when I started this blog. I wanted an opportunity to point out the corruption, hypocrisy and dictatorship-style tactics our government has been communicating since they came into power in 2015. The video below highlights some of the People's Party of Canada candidates for the 2019 election:
There was a reason and a purpose for my political awakening. It happened in coincidence with the founding of a real conservative party in Canada, where I could find a place to land. A place where I could speak with real candidates (in person, on the phone) and really connect and understand how this party’s plans for a better Canada was something I wanted to be involved with. Following the PPC from inception and watching it grow, with a group of candidates that have so much awareness, intelligence, experience, and patriotism, has been the most exciting part of my political journey thus far.
My advice to Canadians who want to be informed: Be aware that most media tells only one side of the story. As someone who studied Public Relations and Communications and has worked in media, I was advised that almost all mainstream media outlets are owned by a handful of corporations. A handful of corporations with a small number of individuals with ownership, whose opinions are translated into "NEWS" in place of researched facts. Beware of the narrative, which you can recognize by each news channel and publication using the exact same language to describe an event.
Most importantly, keep an open mind. This is critical in the art of debate and it is arguably more important when you start to open your eyes to the upside-down clown world that has become Canadian Politics. Seek out your own proof and consider that there is an alternate reality to what has been spoon-fed to Canadians for years.
I recommend checking out conservative media operations like Toronto Sun, Rebel Media, True North, and Post Millennial. I also recommend following some citizen journalists with BitChute and YouTube channels as they will bring you news being suppressed by the mainstream (and many have entered the political realm to serve, but are regular patriotic Canadians like you and me). A few inspirational ones include Frank Vaughan, CanadaPoli, and Adam Daniel Mezei. If you like a little sailor talk with your politics, I recommend these two chaps; The Raging Humanist and Rants Derek who often will do a combined stream on YouTube. You can find all of the above commentators and journalists on Twitter and YouTube with links to other platforms and websites.
Are you willing to take off the rose-coloured glasses? Or will you fight it like Frank in the ’88 film, ‘They Live’? The alarm is going off, it is time to WAKE UP!
Tell me about your own political awakening in the comments. Keep fighting Patriots!
