Climate Action Committee

The misconceived notion that a committee can take actions to affect the climate of a municipality, country, or the globe.

At a December 9, 2019 Council meeting in Northern Bruce Peninsula Councillor Megan Myles proposed a notice of motion “acknowledging climate change & forming a climate action task force” named the Climate Action Committee.

I have no reservations about a 'Climate Action Committee' per se if the objective is conserving the environment and being good stewards of the land. Instead, the environmental movement worldwide has been hijacked and is communicated as "climate change", using more propaganda than fact. Combine that with a Federal Government implementing hurtful measures in the name of climate action, and it is no wonder that Council has been asked to create this committee by a delegate of students from Bruce Peninsula District School and the Bruce Peninsula Environment Group.

The Bruce Peninsula Environment Group is “a community of volunteers interested in conserving and improving the environment of the Saugeen Bruce Peninsula.” Within the mission on their website, they go on to self-describe as, “striking a balance between environmental protection and economic activity.”

That sounds like something most citizens can get behind and support. I think all citizens of Northern Bruce Peninsula can agree that with a tourist area, the accompanying issues need to be addressed whether it’s littered garbage on our roadways and beaches, waste facility sites potentially being filled faster than planned, or hundreds of additional cars on our highway daily, from May to September.

We should be proud of our students for caring about their home, wanting to get involved in clean-up activities or take an interest in local politics. In an age where TikTok and YouTube occupy young people with mind-numbing content, it is refreshing to see young people take an interest in the community and the environment. The danger lies in who has inspired these groups to bring this request to Council.

Students across the country are being encouraged by movements like Greta Thunberg to take a stand against “climate change”. They have been inspired by authority figures like the former leader of the Green Party of Canada, Elizabeth May, to skip school to make some kind of point. What a terrible lesson to teach young people.

Miss Thunberg has been idolized as some kind of climate expert, when in reality her solutions include a complete overhaul of our industries that rely on fossil fuels to bring food to communities, heat our homes, and move us from our homes to our workplaces many kilometers away. Ask yourself, if these extreme alarmists have their way, how will NBP residents move around the Peninsula?

Greta Thunberg is not an expert, nor will she ever be if she continues to be truant from school. She is also not genuine, and many Canadians would be shocked to learn that she has a lot of money behind her, from people who want to affect global political policy like wealth redistribution. Equally as concerning and worthy information for people to know, is who and how the IPCC operates.

The main citation qualifying why Council was urged to create the Climate Action Committee came from the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)- a report heavily criticized by climate scientists and environmental professionals like Patrick J. Michaels, Patrick Moore, former IPCC reviewer and Environment Canada Research Scientist Dr. Madhav Khandekar, and even climate activists like Michael Shellenberger. Policies that Canada, Ontario, and Northern Bruce Peninsula implement should not be based on reports by IPCC which has faced two major scandals falsifying information, referred to as Climategate and Tidalgate.

I also find it worth noting that “Climate Action Committee” is not something our community invented, in fact, the name itself can be found in other communities across North America including Metro Vancouver whose mirror committee is given authority to provide “advice and recommendations on policies, bylaws, plans, programs, budgets and issues related to the Air Quality & Climate Change service, and the Environmental Planning function within Regional Planning”. This is not a coincidence. This is a plan to control policy under the veil of environmentalism at all levels of government.

In a response to Bruce Peninsula Press, a fellow citizen demonstrated their immense pleasure in the approval of the ad hoc committee writing, “I applaud Council for unanimously voting to acknowledge the science behind climate change and to set up a Climate Action Committee.”

I ask what “science” this contributor is referring to, as the presentation given to Council was missing citations to the data presented and much of what was stated can be found debunked by the same experts skeptical of the IPCC. Beware of vague statements like “acknowledge the science” because unfortunately a lot of what has been presented is factually untrue. I have written blogs on this topic in more detail including the inception of the climate change movement, the skeptics, the alarmists, and what solutions they plan on forcing on the people. You can find those blogs at markingsofacdngirl.wixsite.com/blog.

The Climate Action Committee in Northern Bruce Peninsula will consist of community members, council members, and staff and will “oversee creation of a climate action plan and make specific recommendations to Council to undertake measures to mitigate and adapt climate change.” My question regards the credentials of those sitting on this committee and who decides who is worthy to be assigned to this Climate Action Committee?

I would personally like to first hear from members of the Bruce Peninsula Environment Group, and members of Council (specifically Councillor Megan Myles) how they work to be more environmentally conservative in their own lives because frankly, Canadians are sick of virtue signaling by activists who don’t practice what they preach.

It is crucial that this committee includes citizens that think critically about environmental issues and can offer a balance in the discussion to ensure that economic growth is not hindered by overexaggerated climate concerns. I volunteer to sit on this committee as an environmental conservationist and an engaged member of the NBP community. Alternatively, I ask for someone with these opinions to have the confidence to submit their name for consideration.

If Northern Bruce Peninsula was truly innovative in its actions to promote environmentalism and conservatism, we would see more support for real sustainable-living lifestyles like small footprint tiny homes or the ability to rent out a cottage short-term instead of letting the home sit empty or charge residents enormous fees for doing so.

“Council also acknowledges that more than 400 municipalities across Canada and Ontario are acting on climate change.” Canada has over thirty-five hundred municipalities with varying populations, environmental features, and differences in housing, employment, industry, and political views. The idea that MNBP Council should jump on board with something four hundred municipalities are doing, should concern residents of NBP and encourage citizens to write to Council to ensure decision making is based on what the needs are of the people of Northern Bruce Peninsula.
